The Militia Question, Resolved: Second Amendment 101
by Michael E. Kreca

"The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to permit the conquered Eastern peoples to have arms. History teaches that all conquerors who have allowed their subject races to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by doing so. Indeed I would go so far as to say that the underdog is a sine qua non for the overthrow of any sovereignty. So let's not have any native militia or police. German troops alone will bear the sole responsibility for the maintenance of law and order."
~ Adolf Hitler, April 11, 1942, in “Hitler's Table-Talk at the Führer's Headquarters 1941–1942,” Dr. Henry Picker, ed. (Athenaeum Verlag, Bonn, 1951)

Twenty-seven words first published in 1790 are now the source of the bitterest controversy the USA has seen since the 1960s if not since the War Between the States a century before that. They are central to an issue that splits left and right, male and female, white and nonwhite, North and South, East and West, wealthy and not-so wealthy.

Stories related to Gun Ownership Alaska's Law: Vermont Style Carry Law

Alaska Adopts Vermont Carry

Every once in a while, a state legislature adopts a gun control law that utterly
shocks me—that leaves me saying, “Where did that come from?” This time, it’s Alaska.
What is “Vermont Carry”? For the last ten years that I have been researching and
writing about concealed weapon regulation, I have had always had to explain one strange
exception in American law: Vermont doesn’t regulate concealed carry of a handgun. It
does not now have a law prohibiting or licensing concealed carry. I am not aware that it has ever had such a law."

Stories related to Gun Ownership 2010 Area Shooting Match Schedule Released

jlrhodes writes "2010 Area Shooting Match Schedule

Northwestern Nevada steel plate and bowling pin shooting clubs have released their 2010 season match schedule. “These matches are quite popular,” said Stillwater Firearms Association President Elynda Long, “and a lot of fun! You don’t have to be a seasoned expert shooter because you compete in a class of shooters with similar abilities. Virtually everyone can compete! And we place a very strong emphasis on safety. The shooting range is designated ‘COLD,’ meaning there shall be no loaded firearms except on the firing line, and then only upon the Range Master’s command. A Safety Officer stands behind each shooter to observe the shooter’s firearm for signs of a malfunction and ensure proper procedures are followed.”

Stories related to Gun Ownership Why Adopt a Vermont-style CCW Law?
Posted by admin on Sunday, January 17 @ 12:44:55 EST (17 reads)

jlrhodes writes "From Gun Owners of America webpage http://gunowners.org/vtcarry.htm

Why Adopt a Vermont-style CCW Law?

Several states are considering adopting "Vermont-style" concealed carry legislation. Most of the Carry Concealed Weapon (CCW) laws in the country require citizens to first get permits. But in a couple of states, like Vermont, citizens can carry a firearm without getting permission . . . without paying a fee . . . or without going through any kind of government- imposed waiting period. There are many reasons for a state to adopt a genuine right to carry law:"

Governor Signs Bill, Teaches Actual Gun Safety
"Educating kids on the constitutional roots of the right to keep and bear arms."

For Immediate Release
April 12, 2005

Arizona has enacted a gun-safety bill for children that breaks new ground. Worth one credit toward a high school diploma, the course requires students to safely discharge a firearm at a target to pass. American high schools used to have firing ranges in the basement, but the tradition began fading in the late 1960s. Gun-rights proponents believe that training and education leads to increased safety and responsible behavior."
